Variable Frequency Drives

Variable frequency drives are electronic control units that allow AC motors to operate over a wide range of speeds.

Variable frequency drives (VFDs) are also known by other names such as adjustable frequency drives (AFDs), AC drives, inverter drives, inverters, variable speed drives (VSDs), and adjustable speed drives (ASDs).

These terms are generally applied to just the electronic control unit, but are sometimes applied to the entire drive system including the control unit, motor, operator control interface and other related equipment.
